Every February, appropriately during CTE month, New York City’s United Federation of Teachers hosts its Career and Technical Education Awards Ceremony. The UFT, a teacher’s union representing more than 100,000 education professionals, began hosting the recognition ceremony in 1984 to boost the morale of career and technical education educators teaching in NYC public schools city-wide.
This year’s ceremony with the theme of “The Future is Now”, was the 41st of these ceremonies. Leo Gordon, UFT Vice President for CTE High Schools, hosted the ceremony and introduced each award presenter. At the ceremony, C-Tech President and CEO, David Brady, took the stage to present Chelsea Career and Technical High School CTE Teacher, Luis Rojas with the Business and Education Partnership Award.

Prior to announcing the award recipient Dave took a moment to highlight the great work accomplished through the hearts and the hands of C-Tech’s dedicated CTE educators and the many projects their students have had an impact on nationwide. C-Tech graduates have installed advanced broadband systems at the very top of the Statue of Liberty and the very bottom of the Grand Canyon. From a large NYC community of nearly 9 million to just 900 people living at the bottom of the canyon and everything in between.
Luis Rojas has positively impacted students throughout his career and his school has certified thousands of students in broadband telecom related careers over the years. Congratulation Luis and thank you for all your hard work over the years!
